For commercial pool operators, maintaining safe water quality while controlling costs and avoiding downtime is critical.

An increasing number of UK businesses and local services are turning away from traditional chlorination methods for keeping their swimming pools sanitised and healthy. From leisure centres to lidos, schools to hotels, electrochlorination for commercial swimming pools is becoming increasingly popular, offering a clean, safe method of chlorination with an improved swimming experience.

An essential part of electrochlorination is of course reliable delivery of specialist high quality swimming pool salt, making sure that nothing gets in the way of providing clean and safe swimming pool water for patrons. Here at PureSalt, we are able to offer a variety of salt solutions depending upon your needs.

It is easy to believe that salt is just salt, especially as costs in running commercial swimming pools continue to increase, but using the incorrect salt for your membrane electrolysis system is only a false economy, resulting in costly repairs and downtime.

Why electrochlorination instead of traditional chlorination methods?

  • Gentler on eyes, skin, hair and swimwear due to the lower chlorine content
  • Reduction of chemical smells that many people dislike about chlorine pools
  • Improved swimmer comfort, essential for luxury spas and hotels
  • Less downtime for chlorination with constant easy to use dosing
  • Eliminate the need for storage and handling of hazardous highly concentrated chemicals
  • Salt is readily available at competitive prices
  • Consistent chlorination so no over or under dosing
  • Lower environmental impact

Why specialist swimming pool salt?

Membrane electrolysis should always use high quality specialist swimming pool salt, specifically designed for the protection of your salt chlorinator and its membranes that meets the standards required by EU biocide legislations. Not all swimming pool salt is created equal and you should only use salt that is compliant to EN 16401 Type A standards.

Non specialist swimming pool salt may contain impurities that can damage expensive equipment alongside inconsistent chlorination, offering a false economy. Even the highest quality non specialist swimming pool salt contains either caking or anti-caking agents dependent upon its finished format, which typically contains iron. This can result in both damage to the equipment and pool liner.

There are some smaller commercial pools that use in-situ salt chlorination. This is where the salt is dosed and dissolved directly into the swimming pool and chlorine is made consistently within the water. Those using these systems will be perfectly suited for using Poolsel, specially designed for use in salt chlorination in small commercial and domestic pools.

Swimming pool salt logistics – deliveries to suit your bespoke needs

We understand that chlorination requirements are constant and delays in supply can cause issues with sanitisation and every day running, with no one wanting to make the call to have to shut down the pool over safety and sanitisation concerns. A single day of pool closure can cost commercial operators thousands in lost revenue and customer dissatisfaction. We stock multiple brands of swimming pool salt suitable for electrochlorination all year round for our commercial swimming pool clients, making sure that we have stock even when manufacturers hit unforeseen problems.

We also understand that every site has different needs – maintenance teams are not always on site every day to handle pallet deliveries, storage space might be lacking or heavy salt bags might be difficult for the team to handle. Our logistics team are on hand to make sure that your needs are covered – we despatch swimming pool salt from boxes to multiple pallets with or without the need for a forklift truck on site, in both 10kg & 25kg bags.

For regular pallet demand of swimming pool salt or orders above 4 pallets, our commercial salt team are on hand to offer a bespoke quotation. Get in touch on 01728 745 910 or contact us today to discuss your requirements.
